Did you read my previous post? The one about getting superglue on my eyeglass lenses, right at the bifocal line? So yeah, talk about BLURRY VISION! I had to google some suggestions about removing the Super Glue and thought I would give you an update!
I did soak a papertowel in dish-soap-soaked water, and then let my lens sit on top (resting under a bowl so it was sort of like a greenhouse) – and actually let it sit for more than 6 hours. It was supposed to soften the glue to the point that it could be scraped off or peeled off.
Did it work?
Not really. Sigh. I was a tad disappointed, but okay since I wasn’t really sure it was going to work.
I remembered something I had heard about lemon essential oil dissolving all kinds of gunk & goo. Since I couldn’t see very well through the lenses as they were, I thought I would try this route since I didn’t have anything to lose.
I grabbed a paper towel and applied 1 drop of lemon EO. I gently applied it to the lens, and then using a dry part of the paper towel began sorta rubbing it around the lens.
Did it work?
Well, I can still see the smudge of glue, BUT it is much better! I continued to rub with dry paper towel and did see an improvement and lessening of glue.
WARNING: Lemon essential oil (as well as other citrus oils) can actually MELT plastic. It can cause permanent non-recoverable damage. I resorted to using it because I couldn’t use my glasses as they were. I don’t know if this suggestion will work for anyone else, as I have no control over the glasses or oils that might be used. USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
I am using my glasses now, and although there are sections that are still blurry, they are much more usable. I intend to try another application of essential oil, but didn’t want to melt through the plastic lenses I have, so I was being very cautious the first time around. I have also noticed that I have less glare than before, so it’s possible that the lemon eo removed some sort of coating, but for me that is an improvement. lol
On a side note, since citrus oils may have an emotionally uplifting effect, wearing my glasses for the rest of the day kinda put me in a good mood! Bonus!
